Ishra for iPhone 1.1: adhan voices, official times and a pause that is yours to choose

The first update to Ishra on iPhone is out on the App Store. Here is what changed, and why the pause is now optional.

Ishra arrived on the App Store in October. Version 1.1 is the first update, and it is built from what people told us in the first weeks. Update from the App Store and everything you logged stays where it is.

The pause is now optional

On iPhone, pausing apps goes through Apple's Screen Time. Some of you wanted Ishra for the journal, the times and the reminders, and did not want to give Screen Time access at all. Now you do not have to. Ishra works fully without it, and you can turn the pause on later from Focus whenever you are ready.

When you do allow it, iOS hands Ishra anonymous tokens for the apps you choose. Ishra never learns their names, and never sees how you use them.

Times that match the official jadwal

For the Kemenag and JAKIM methods, Ishra now adds the same safety minutes, ihtiyati, that their published schedules include. Before, the astronomy was right but a minute or two early against the calendar on your masjid's wall. Now the two agree.

Five adhan voices

Prayer reminders can play a full adhan instead of a chime. Pick one of five voices in Settings, including an Indonesian adhan. Reminders still respect your silent switch and Focus modes.

Your journal, in a file

You can now export everything you logged to a backup file, and restore it on a new iPhone. There is still no account and no Ishra server: the file is yours, and it goes where you put it.

Restore purchases

If you supported Ishra and changed phones, Restore purchases on the supporter screen brings it back with the same Apple ID.

What comes next

Ishra for Mac is on its way to the Mac App Store, and support bought on iPhone will carry over to it. After that comes Ishra 2.0, on Android and iPhone at the same time. You can follow it, and vote on what comes after, on the roadmap.

Let the clock decide.

Ishra pauses the apps you choose when a prayer window opens. Free on Android and iPhone.
